The drama that was unleashed in October 2018 with a seemingly innocent fall in the clash against Borna Coric at the Shanghai Masters 1000, which caused a broken kneecap, does not end for Juan Martín Del Potro. This Wednesday the Tandilense suffered in Switzerland the third operation in the area.

Delpo, an example of resilience throughout his checkered and brilliant career, had tried to return to training during his quarantine, after the rehabilitation that followed the second knee operation, in January of this year in Miami.

But the pain in the area never went away and Del Potro decided to consult another specialist: Dr. Roland Biedert , who at the time was key in Federer's recovery from a similar injury. The doctor recommended the surgical route.

Del Potro, who will be discharged in the next few days, had been in contact with Biedert since January this year.

"In recent months, Delpo followed the recommendations of his doctors and even demanded the knee on a tennis court in Buenos Aires, but the pain in the area never stopped," says the statement issued by his communication team.

The same text explains that "in his first meeting, Biedert recommended a new operation", the third on his right knee since he suffered the injury in October 2018, at the Masters 1000 in Shanghai.
