A 4-year-old girl was rescued by a ferry in Greece while she was drifting on an inflatable buoy near the Mediterranean coast. As reported by the Greek newspaper Proto Thema , the child was swept away for about 500 meters by the current, when she was initially at the beach with her mother.

Seeing that she was too far away to be caught swimming, the Coast Guard immediately made a radio call to all vessels in the vicinity to warn them. This is how the Salaminomachos, a ferry that was close to the little girl, initiated the perilous rescue. “ I placed the boat so that the small buoy was not affected by the ripples ” caused by the engine, tells Grigoris Karnesis, the captain, to the Greek weekly.
The video of the rescue, posted on social networks, shows the girl equipped with an armband riding on her unicorn buoy. The crew of the Salaminomachos then retrieves her from the deck of the ship, talking to her and making faces to relax her. According to Grigoris Karnesis, the little girl indeed seemed to be very afraid when the boat approached her. After a smooth repatriation, the little girl was able to join her parents safe and sound.
