Moscow - SANA

The Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed that the United States' intentions and approach to resume sanctions against Iran are exacerbating the situation, calling on Washington to return to the right track.

Sputnik quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement commenting on the UN Security Council’s rejection of America’s attempt to appeal the sanctions resolution against Iran, “The American colleagues had the opportunity to make sure that the international community categorically rejects their claims by using the appropriate mechanism stipulated in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and Security Council Resolution No. 2231 ”.

The statement added, "Washington's desire to impose its wrong reading of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 on the world and to evade responsibility for grave breaches of its obligations was not met with understanding or support in the UN Security Council."

"A few days ago, the President of the Security Council received clear official signals from many members of the Security Council that they did not recognize the right of the United States to initiate the process of reinstating sanctions against Iran," the statement said, adding that "the American side was referred to the legal and procedural nullity of its actions that are not related to the mission." Maintaining international peace and security, and therefore cannot lead to the resumption of long-canceled decisions. Thus, the American initiative has no future or legal consequences.

The UN Security Council yesterday rejected the request of the United States of America to resume sanctions against Iran.
