Iranian President Hassan Rouhani held the International Atomic Energy Agency responsible for preserving the nuclear agreement, noting that the United States realized well that its exit from it was a grave mistake.

Rouhani said during his meeting today with Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, in Tehran that the agency bears the responsibility of preserving the agreement and showing the importance of preserving it to the world, adding that Iran is committed, as in the past, to its cooperation with the IAEA within the framework of guarantees.

Rouhani added that two years after the United States withdrew from the nuclear deal, the Americans today realized the extent of the mistake they had committed, adding that "the United States must realize that the time for unilateralism is over and over."

Rouhani indicated that while the US administration seeks to destroy the nuclear deal, Iran and the international community are working to preserve it.

In turn, Grossi expressed his satisfaction with the agreement of the International Atomic Energy Agency with the Iranian Nuclear Energy Organization, stressing the need to strengthen and expand cooperation between the two sides.

Grossi indicated that the nuclear agreement was, in fact, a great achievement for all parties, which holds everyone an important responsibility to preserve it.

Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency agreed, in a joint statement, to settle the issues identified by the agency based on good faith regarding the implementation of the safeguards agreement.

The statement added that Iran will voluntarily provide access to two sites designated by the International Atomic Energy Agency and facilitate the agency’s procedures to ensure the safety of activities and in a way that contributes to resolving these issues. The two sides also agreed on the necessity of the IAEA’s commitment to ensuring nuclear peace with the comprehensive safeguards agreement and protocol. Additional standards of assurance are approved by the agency as it is for other countries and without any discrimination.

The statement indicated that the IAEA does not have any right to ask other questions to Iran or to submit any other request regarding access to more sites and more than what was determined by Iran in accordance with the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and the Additional Protocol.

The joint statement also stressed the need for the independence, impartiality and professionalism of the International Atomic Energy Agency in order to carry out the activities to ensure peace, and that the agency should, in light of the joint statement, maintain the confidentiality of information related to the safeguards agreement and attach importance to Iran's security concerns in this regard.
