There is nothing conventional about the Republican convention. For the first time in its recent history, the Republican Party did not adopt a program for the presidential election. In a statement, the national leadership of the party announced that that of 2016 would be renewed as is, criticizing the media, accused of having "outrageously distorted" the absence of a new program. The party's position is summed up in one sentence: it "enthusiastically supports President Trump and continues to reject the political positions of the Obama-Biden administration, as well as those adopted by the Democrats . "

Four years after Donald Trump's victory in the Republican primaries in 2016, the former party of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan appears to be radically transformed.
"The Republican Party is nothing more than a cult of personality," said Charles Sykes, editor-in-chief of the conservative site The Bulwark, founded in 2018 in opposition to Donald Trump.
