Vienna detainee suspected of murdering octogenarian commits suicide

The man was being prosecuted for "murder preceded by another crime and attacking the integrity of a corpse".


A detainee accused of the rape and murder of an octogenarian who disappeared in May 2019 in Charente-Maritime, whose body without head or hands was found three weeks later, committed suicide, the Poitiers prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday.

This man, concierge of the residence for seniors where the victim lived, was being prosecuted for " murder preceded by another crime and attacking the integrity of a corpse ".

He had admitted the rape and murder of the octogenarian. He then allegedly mutilated the body to delay identification. He was detained at the Poitiers-Vivonne penitentiary center.

The victim's body, in an advanced state of decomposition, was found in early June 2019 by walkers in a forest of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Prée, three weeks after the disappearance of this 85-year-old woman.
