Remember the hard-to-find situation in Hong Kong at the beginning of the epidemic? At that time, the epidemic began to break out and there was a shortage of masks in the city. Many Hong Kong people had to travel around Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories for several days to search for them. Some elderly people even lined up outside all night just to get a few masks to protect themselves. In the third wave of the epidemic in recent months, some experts reminded Hong Kong people to keep masks in preparation for long-term anti-epidemic, and masks have become a daily necessity. Although there are more and more supply of masks nowadays, "good masks are hard to find." Sometimes when you go out in a hurry and forget to wear masks, it feels more like "running naked." Cyberport’s two start-ups, Bull.b Tech and SmADt, respectively launched the first UV sterilization reusable masks in Hong Kong and a 24-hour mask vending machine to provide Hong Kong people with a little convenience during the anti-epidemic period and jointly fight the invisible. enemy.

``Son of Star'' Chen Yixi founded Bull.b Tech to develop Hong Kong-made masks

"Son of the Star" Chen Yixi (Stark) experienced SARS in 2003 and knew the importance of preparing for the epidemic. Therefore, at the beginning of the epidemic, he, like everyone else, sent out daily to search for anti-epidemic supplies such as masks. However, even if he traveled all over Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories and joined various discussion boards and group buying groups to try to buy masks, he still failed. When I was helpless and upset, I inspired the idea of "being better than asking yourself", so I decided to "make a move" and use his scientific research expertise to develop masks for Hong Kong people!

Bull.b Tech developed a Hong Kong-made "100nm photocatalyst sterilization reusable mask" to fight the epidemic together with Hong Kong people.

Hong Kong's first UV sterilization reusable mask can be cleaned and reused 50 times

Chen Yixi founded Bull.b Tech, a start-up company with friends in 2011, whose main business is to develop mobile application programs. As the epidemic continued, Bull.b Tech began to figure out how to use technology to help Hong Kong people fight the epidemic.

During the conception process, Chen Yixi saw that most of the masks in the market are disposable designs, which pose a certain pressure on the environment, so he formed a team and hoped to develop a new reusable innovative technology mask to fight the epidemic together with Hong Kong people. Bull.b Tech has successfully developed a "100nm photocatalyst sterilization reusable mask" that combines technology, environmental protection and design by cooperating with the local manufacturing, information technology and medical technology industries, and a sterilization mask bag with a built-in UV lamp. Each mask can be reused within 1 month.

6 characteristics of UV sterilization reusable masks :

1. The outermost layer of the mask is made of breathable and quick-drying fabric, with a certified medical-grade photocatalyst coating, which can kill and decompose bacteria after being irradiated with ultraviolet light.

2. The middle layer is a replaceable meltblown non-woven filter element that meets KN95 international standards, which can block up to 99.6% of bacteria and particles in the air. Each filter element can be used continuously for up to 3 to 5 days.

3. The outer layer of the mask can be cleaned and reused. It can retain at least 99.6% of the sterilization ability after being cleaned for 50 times, which solves the worry that disposable masks will damage the environment.

4. The first to be equipped with a UV sterilization mask bag, just put the mask in the bag, press the UV button, the bag will emit 400 nanometer ultraviolet light, and the surface of the mask can be disinfected after 3 to 5 minutes.

5. The UV mask bag can be sterilized for 100 times, and the service life is up to 1 month.

6. Available in different colors, when masks become a "commodity", it is convenient for the public to wear different clothes.

Start-up companies set up "anti-epidemic gas stations" in Hong Kong

In addition to Chen Yixi, Zhang Zhuoran (Clearence), the founder and CEO of another Cyberport start-up, SmADt, was also struggling with masks. He even tried to wait in line for free mask distribution at night, but in the end he still couldn't help. Seeing Hong Kong people working hard for the masks, Clearence decided to use SmADt's expertise and technology to help Hong Kong people tide over the difficulties.

SmADt launched a surgical mask vending machine "anti-epidemic gas station", and has set up sales points in more than 20 housing estates in Hong Kong within two months.

SmADt, established in December last year, provides an offline machine platform for brands and retailers to enhance the smart retail shopping experience through IoT technology. As the epidemic continued, SmADt used the team's technology to launch the first batch of vending machines selling surgical masks in Hong Kong, "Anti-epidemic gas stations". Selling masks in the form of vending machines can not only reduce the chance of crowds in the community, but also provide 24-hour service, so that the public can buy masks anytime and anywhere. The team has set up sales points in more than 20 housing estates in Hong Kong within two months, and the vending machines have clearly stated the prices, and there will never be a situation where the price will rise. Clearence said: "People are panicking under the epidemic. SmADt hopes to use the knowledge and technology of the team to help Hong Kong citizens tide over the difficulties." In the future, they will add more anti-epidemic items, such as disinfection, to the "anti-epidemic gas station". Handrub and wet wipes, together with Hong Kong people, defeat the epidemic.

6 characteristics of "Anti-epidemic Gas Station" :

1. The central system is developed by our own engineers, which can simply and directly increase or decrease functions. When replenishing goods, you can adjust settings at will, such as inventory volume and quantity.

2. The central cargo management system allows the team to arrange replenishment time and cycle through intelligent technology, reducing logistics costs.

3. Use AI analysis to understand the popularity of goods and consumer needs, and manage goods more effectively.

4. The vending machine is connected to the network and can report sales status and replenishment requirements in real time.

5. If the vending machine fails, engineers can use the cloud to solve the problem remotely, reducing operational troubles.

6. 24-hour operation, convenient for the public to buy masks anytime and anywhere.

The novel coronavirus epidemic has brought severe challenges to the world. In the face of a completely different world and life, the application of digital technology has become the key to adapting to the new landscape and seizing new opportunities.

As early as February of this year, some young entrepreneurs in the Cyberport realized that their innovative solutions can contribute to the fight against the epidemic, so they turned their enthusiasm into action and launched the "Dare to Fight against the Epidemic" campaign. Start-ups and technology companies in the Cyberport community quickly gathered to meet the difficulties and provide the public with digital technology solutions to overcome the current difficulties.

So far, the Cyberport "Dare to Fight the Epidemic" action has recruited more than 60 applications in the community to provide anti-epidemic and response to the new normal for frontline medical staff, parents, schools and students who are still adapting to home study, and home quarantine. Disadvantaged communities such as, grassroots families, and large and small enterprises in various industries that have been hit hard to meet current needs. At the same time, Cyberport actively connects different start-ups and companies in the community through actions, and establishes collaborative cooperation to achieve greater anti-epidemic effects, inject positive energy into society with innovation and technology, and provide local and overseas companies or organizations with reference.

As society accelerates digital transformation and enters the new normal, the demand for digital technology is bound to increase. Cyberport and its start-up community will continue to stick to their posts, move forward, and use the united force of "dare to fight the epidemic". The strong resilience of digital technology has led the society to embrace innovation, cash in on opportunities, and promote the sustained growth of the new economy, with Hong Kong on the way to explore the new normal.
