The Ministry of Finance presented today (Thursday) to the Histadrut a plan for wage cuts in the public sector following the Corona crisis. The outline includes a 10% cut for public employees whose salaries are higher than NIS 20,000 a month. For those earning a lower wage, there will be a cut of a few percent, and for the recipients of the budgetary pension, the management fee will be increased from 2% to 7%.

The amount of the cut in the salaries of about 700 employees in the public sector is estimated at NIS 3-5 billion, compared to NIS 45 billion in the last outline presented. Israel Katz, Minister of Finance last month introduced a temporary reduction program costs including public sector wage of $ 15 billion per year for three years, but the Histadrut chairman Arnon Bar David rejected it on the agenda.

Now that the program aimed Katz will begin next October And will end in December 2022, but the Histadrut also opposes the current outline.

"The public sector is required to give its share in favor of the struggle in Corona, by agreement or in government decisions and legislation," Katz tweeted on his Twitter account yesterday. "On September 13, I intend to bring this year's budget frameworks and additions to the government for approval, as required by the enacted legislation. Following Katz's remarks, Bar-David emphasized to the Histadrut members that "I will continue to be a wall in the form of workers in Israel in the face of any threat." The chairman of the Histadrut harshly criticized the minister, saying that "the Minister of Finance, as usual, is trying to do public relations for himself at the expense of the workers in Israel, while publicizing the citizens. On the one hand he wants to take from the workers, and on the other hand to distribute billions without logic, to those who need it and those who do not need it.

" The Histadrut will not allow him to intimidate public sector workers. I suggest that the minister be interested, for a change, in the talks that are taking place between the Histadrut and the finance teams. "
