2020-08-28T02:58:12.885Z

The president accepted the nomination as a candidate for reelection from the White House, despite the rules that prohibit it from being used for political campaign events. Before him, his daughter and adviser Ivanka called him "the president of the people." The end of the conclave comes amid a hurricane, a pandemic, and riots due to police violence.

The Republican National Convention has its last night this Thursday and its climax is the speech of the president, Donald Trump , with which he formally accepted the nomination as a candidate for re-election. His daughter Ivanka , who is also an adviser to the White House, was another of the speakers of the day. Also taking the podium were Republican Senate Majority Leader  Mitch McConnell and the president's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani.

  • Scavino praises Trump for naturalizing immigrants without mentioning that some were unaware they would be part of a political event
  • The fourth day of the Republican Convention starts with false accusations against the Democrats
  • "We are the retaining wall against Nancy Pelosi's agenda": Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader
  • Shortly before his convention closing speech, Trump says he will travel to the states affected by Hurricane Laura
  • A Washington DC doctor describes the gathering of 1,500 people for Trump's speech as "crazy"
  • Dozens of protesters protest in front of the White House, in Black Lives Matter Square, shortly before Trump speaks

But nationally, 61% of voters think Trump doesn't care about average Americans, according to a July Quinnipiac poll.

The president's daughter acknowledged that Trump's tweets and his style are not to everyone's taste, but she believed that he is a good person based on anecdotes such as the one he keeps a gift from his grandchildren, sons of Ivanka and Jared Kushner, in his office.

She also spoke of the promises made by her and Trump to support low-income families with childcare. However, this is one of the issues in which what Ivanka Trump says does not fit with what really happens.

Biden responds to Republicans in real time: "How safe do you feel in Trump's America?"

"When Donald Trump says that tonight you will not be safe in Joe Biden's America, look around and ask yourself: How safe do you feel in Donald Trump's America?" He wrote on Twitter.

"The best is yet to come": Kevin McCarthy, House Republican Minority Leader and Key Trump Ally

McCarthy, one of the first speakers on the last night of the convention, and a key ally of the president in the Lower House (with a Democratic majority), said that "no one has done more to protect" the United States than the current occupant of the United States. White House.

In a pre-recorded video, McCarthy criticized the Democrats, comparing them to socialism, emphasizing that he believes "the best is yet to come."

McCarthy also addressed the need to confront what he called an "invisible enemy," without directly naming the coronavirus. “We will defeat him. We will defeat it because the United States is where innovation happens, ”he said. "And we are developing a vaccine in record time."

Ben Carson insists Donald Trump is not a racist

The retired neurosurgeon and housing secretary named Jacob Blake - the black man who was shot seven by police in Kenosha, whose case has reactivated anti-racism protests in the country - and said his heart went out to all who had been shocked by the tragic events in Wisconsin.

Carson, who was also a Republican presidential candidate in 2016, focused his speech on defending Trump's record and defending it from those who point to him as racist: "They couldn't be more wrong," he said.

Retired police widow backs the president. The man's daughters say he never supported Trump

Ann Dorn, the widow of retired police officer David Dorn, endorsed Trump by speaking at the convention about her husband's death, which she described as an "execution," and opined that "violence and destruction are not valid ways to protest or protect black lives ".

However, Dorn's daughters had told the St. Louis American newspaper that their father would not have wanted his name used in connection with Trump and that Dorn never supported the president.

Dorn passed away in May while helping a friend of his guard his store; He was shot by two men who tried to rob a pawn shop in St. Louis, Missouri, while many people participated in demonstrations rejecting the death of George Floyd.

On the same day that Dorn died, a protester was also killed when he wanted to protest by a vehicle.

Scavino praises Trump for naturalizing immigrants without mentioning that some were unaware they would be part of a political event

Dan Scavino, adviser to Donald Trump and director of social networks for the White House, praised this Thursday night that the naturalization ceremony that the president held on Tuesday during the second day of the Republican Convention.

"You have seen new people become our compatriots in a ceremony at the White House (...) On November 3, vote for the man who believes in America, and who believes in you," said Scavino.

What Trump's adviser did not say is that two of the immigrants who received citizenship that day  did not know that they were going to appear at the Republican Convention, much less that their naturalization would be broadcast live for political purposes.

Two women, Sudha Narayanan and Neimat Awadelseid, told the Wall Street Journal that minutes before the ceremony, they learned that President Trump would be present.

Although they assured us that they cared about appearing at the convention, multiple critics said it was inappropriate not to tell them they would be part of a political event.

The fourth day of the Republican Convention starts with false accusations against the Democrats

The Republicans insisted, again, and without foundation, that the Democrats want to cut the police force.

This Republican rhetoric comes amid multiple protests against systemic racism and police brutality in Wisconsin over the incident of Jacob Blake, the black man who was shot in the back seven times by an officer.

Two people were killed during the protests, at the hands of a Trump supporter, who shot at people.

Again, we have to note that  neither Biden nor the Democratic Party advocate starving the police or "destroying the prisons . " Various media and verification sites have proven these allegations by Republicans to be false. Some phrases we hear tonight:

✔️ "President Trump has made it clear that if you want safe communities, you need police departments with the highest standards." Ja'ron Smith, Assistant to the President.

✔️ "Democrats will dismantle our institutions, drain our police, and destroy our economy." Kevin McCarthy, Minority Leader in the House of Representatives.

✔️ "Now they are (the Democrats) in favor of open borders, against our police and the rights that God gave us." Jeff Van Drew, representative for New Jersey.

Trump and Biden agree not to cut funds for the police

Just a week ago, the Vox website explained that in some Democratic-led cities, such as New York and Seattle, the most activist members of the city council calling for a reconsideration of police budgets have encountered opposition from mayors whom Trump accuses. of wanting to cut funds for the police.

“While activists call for reducing the number of police officers and police budgets, the framework of Biden's proposals would actually increase the number of police officers in communities where mostly minorities such as Latinos and Blacks live. He wants a $ 300 million investment for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program , which he helped spearhead in the 1990s, to revitalize community-oriented policing, ”explained Vox.

Similarly, Politifact has shown on numerous occasions that Biden does not want to eliminate the police and that he proposes reform to prisons to change how they are run, among other things.

A Washington DC doctor describes the gathering of 1,500 people for Trump's speech as "crazy"

Dr. Jonathan Reiner, director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at George Washington University Hospital in the capital, told CNN that it is "insane" that President Trump and the Republican National Committee host between 1,000 and 1,500 people in the House. Blanca tonight for her closing speech.

Reiner said Trump is breaking the restrictions on gatherings in the capital, which state that these mass gatherings of more than 50 people are prohibited.

"I'm sitting, right now, in a hospital six blocks from the White House. A hospital that treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients over the past six months. And when I watch a meeting on the street, simply for political purposes, just to create a backdrop for the president, it's really crazy, "Reiner said.

It is unclear if the attendees at the speech were tested for the virus. There was no order to wear masks in the South Lawn.

Multiple speakers during the previous three days of the convention have highlighted the work of the police to contain the riots and protests. None have mentioned the individual tragedy of Blake, who was unarmed and is in the hospital in critical condition, most likely paralyzed in the lower body.

The Long Live GoGo and ShutDownDC groups organize an outdoor concert near the White House to try to stifle the president's speech. Their goal is to denounce Trump's "racist and destructive agenda," according to organizers.

Trump is ready to accuse Biden of pushing a "radical agenda" in his closing speech to the Republican Convention

According to excerpts from the president's speech, released by his campaign a few hours before the peak moment of the convention's final night, Trump will use his primetime time to attack his opponent Joe Biden based on a wide variety of topics: crime, immigration, trade, China and even the coronavirus (even though Biden is not the one in charge of managing the pandemic).

Trump will say that the Democrats seek to promote "a radical agenda" and that his Administration has had to "reverse" the damage done by the Barack Obama Administration, in which Biden was second in command. Here are some previews of the speech:

✔️ "At no time before have voters faced a clearer choice between two parties, two visions, two philosophies, or two agendas."

✔️ "We have spent the past four years reversing the damage Joe Biden inflicted over the past 47 years."

✔️ “At the Democratic Convention, we barely heard a word about their agenda. But that's not because they don't have one . It's because his agenda is the most radical set of proposals ever put forward by a major party candidate. "

✔️ "The Republican Party moves forward united, determined, and ready to welcome millions of Democrats, independents, and anyone who believes in America's greatness and the honest hearts of the American people."

✔️ "This mighty American spirit has prevailed over all challenges and raised us to the top of human endeavor."
