Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg condemned the Turkish regime's violations of international law and its continuation of the policy of provocation in the eastern Mediterranean region, warning that if the behavior of this regime does not change, preparations will be made to impose European sanctions on it next September.
"We have reached a turning point with regard to Turkey ... we will put sanctions and we have to speak clearly to Ankara," Schallenberg said in statements carried by the Austrian Foreign Ministry website on the sidelines of a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Berlin today, indicating that at the next EU summit in September the bloc will have to To think about "how to deal and move forward with Turkey in the long term."
The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, announced earlier today that the bloc is preparing sanctions against the Turkish regime that can be discussed at its next summit next month as a way to respond to its violations in the eastern Mediterranean.
It is noteworthy that the Turkish regime yesterday extended the mission of one of its ships to explore for gas in the eastern Mediterranean and announced new naval exercises in continuation of its hostile and provocative practices that met with international condemnation and denunciation, especially by Greece.
