Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD) hastily issued an alcohol ban on the lake promenade in Bad Wiessee from 10 p.m. Before that, the situation escalated.

  • There is now a ban on alcohol from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the Wiesse lake promenade on the Tegernsee.
  • A security service checks at night.
  • Seeglas in Gmund am Tegernsee is also a hotspot.

Bad Wiessee - “ I'm actually not a fan of bans,” says Wiessee's Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD) . Nevertheless, on Monday he issued an alcohol ban on the lake promenade on Tegernsee . It is valid from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and is limited to October 31 . Actually it would have needed a resolution from the local council. But it won't meet again until September. “And we had to act quickly,” says Kühn.

After last weekend, park benches and sky beds swam in the lake. And that wasn't the biggest problem by any means. For a few weeks now, groups have been meeting to celebrate on the lake promenade. This not only runs counter to the Corona rules, but also brings with it noise, rubbish and vandalism.

Corona parties at Tegernsee: alcohol ban gives police action

If there is a ban on alcohol, the police have a means of evacuating the party from the square. This has not only been important since Corona. The city of Tegernsee imposed an alcohol ban in some areas years ago, and the municipality of Rottach-Egern followed suit in 2019.

In the Corona summer 2020 the problem got bigger. All festivals are canceled, the bars are closed, the summer nights are mild. Around the Tegernsee, party people meet on the shore. "We check there regularly," says the local police chief Thomas Heinrich. Two focal points have emerged: the Wiesseer lake promenade and the bank in Seeglas near Gmund. The Bad Wiessee police are pleased that Bad Wiessee has now reacted by imposing an alcohol ban.

Corona parties at Tegernsee: Security service monitors the lake promenade at night

On top of that, the community will in future also deploy a security service at night on weekends. "Fortunately, that was possible at such short notice," explains Maximilian Macco from the Wiesseer Ordnungsamt. As reported, the municipality has commissioned Oberland Security to monitor the ban on cycling on the lake promenade since mid-July. From now on, the security service also has an eye on those celebrating and monitoring - in addition to the police - the lake promenade also at night.

For the police, this is helpful as a support, says police chief Heinrich. The security service can only remind you of the applicable rules. Nevertheless, this shows effect: "It is enough to be present."

Decision on Corona alcohol ban - Wiesse municipal council not yet involved

Kühn wants to bring up the alcohol ban at the September meeting of the municipal council. The unauthorized decree is legally covered, says Kühn. If there is a need, the mayor can act. “It was a necessary measure to set the guard rails on the lake promenade in the summer months,” he says.

Corona results in a special situation that requires special measures to protect holidaymakers who want to relax and also the landlord. Because the municipal council was not involved, Kühn said, it only issued the ban for a short period of time. Next year the local council will deal with the matter calmly: "Then everything will probably look completely different again."
