President Alberto Fernández announced this Friday that the quarantine against the coronavirus will continue until September 20, although he indicated that meetings in open spaces will be authorized.

"In common agreement with the governors we made the decision to extend the care measures, sanitary isolation, physical distancing until next September 20," he said.

Through a video broadcast on social networks, the President indicated that "the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, as has happened in the world and in the most populated areas, is the area where it has been necessary to maintain restrictions for the longest time."

"There seems to be some encouraging data there, but it should not lead us to a state of relaxation or confidence . We are far from having solved the problem," he warned.

They authorize meetings in open spaces

The Head of State pointed out that it was also decided to take a new step which consists of authorizing meetings of up to 10 people in open spaces.

"The distance of 2 meters and the use of chinstraps must be maintained. This will be in force throughout the country and will be implemented in each jurisdiction," he explained.

Followed, he clarified that the prohibition of meetings in closed areas is maintained. "There the possibility of contagion increases significantly," he justified.

"With great social and political unity, the vast majority of society is aware of the risks that Covid-19 implies. Today, personal responsibility is more necessary than ever, which has a collective impact," he added.

Without Rodríguez Larreta or Kicillof

On this occasion, the great peculiarity was that Alberto Fernández avoided showing up at a press conference with the head of the Buenos Aires government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, and with the Buenos Aires governor, Axel Kicillof, as he did since the restrictions were put into action on last March 20.

Alberto Fernández presented the continuity of the isolation scheme through a video that he recorded after the meeting he had with Rodríguez Larreta and Kicillof to define the last details.

As Clarín learned , it was a tense meeting, in which the Buenos Aires president managed to get open-air bars with waiters and construction to enable him.

The Ministry of Health confirmed this Friday 80 new deaths from coronavirus in relation to the last report, so there are 8,129 fatalities in the country due to the pandemic, out of a total of 380,292 confirmed cases.

Alberto Fernández agreed hours before with the governors that each jurisdiction will maintain or modify its restriction measures according to local scenarios for the spread of the coronavirus.

He did so during a videoconference in which Juan Schiaretti (Córdoba), Gustavo Bordet (Entre Ríos), Gerardo Morales (Jujuy), Rodolfo Suárez (Mendoza), Omar Gutiérrez (Neuquén), Omar Perotti (Santa Fe), Ricardo Quintela ( La Rioja), Alicia Kirchner (Santa Cruz), Gerardo Zamora (Santiago del Estero) and Juan Manzur (Tucumán).

After two days in a row with more than 10,000 cases, in the Government the fear of a shooting in the AMBA returned but, above all, the idea that the pandemic was nationalized was installed.

It was expected, then, that the phase 3 scheme with flexibilizations would continue but, in principle, the "openings" proposed by the Buenos Aires government would be frozen for a few days .
