After a good 100 days in office, Eitting's mayor Reinhard Huber takes stock in a long interview.

Eitting - A good three years ago, Reinhard Huber (Travel List) was elected Vice-Mayor of Eitting after the death of Rudi Brand. The 59-year-old traveler has been at the helm of the municipality since May 1st. In an interview with the local newspaper, he talks about how it is now to take full responsibility for his congregation and how the first 100 days of his term of office went.

Mr. Huber, after nine months of early retirement you are back in full working life. A big change?

No, because during my early retirement I worked a lot on my son's construction site. And as Vice Mayor, I have often represented our Mayor at the time, Georg Wiester.

Do you miss your previous job as foreman and plant manager at Uniper?

No, I have a much more pleasant working atmosphere here. Cutting jobs and making savings is no longer my world. I chose a different path with the mayor's office and I am satisfied. I also get very good support from the administration.

What is the biggest change from vice-mayor's office to head of town hall?

It was a smooth transition and, due to Corona, a very quiet start. Nevertheless, I and my fellow councilors are well aware that we have a great responsibility. It's also nice to meet a lot of new people.

Apropos Corona: What problems did the pandemic have in the municipality?

Our main problem was: What do we do with the school? I had a lot of contact with the then headmaster Paul Hilger and the parents' council. I don't know whether this is part of my area of responsibility. But it was important that we find a good and sensible solution in order to be able to carry out the emergency care as well and safely as possible. And when the first easing came, the clubs approached us because they wanted to train again. We then invited all club representatives from Eitting and Oberding to the triple hall in Oberding to decide on further training. Many events have been canceled due to Corona, including the citizens' meeting.

Is there an alternative here?

Yes, we want to have our citizens' meeting in the gym in November. We will make up for the official farewell to my predecessor and the resigned councilors in a smaller group in November.

Have you already married a bridal couple?

No not yet. I have attended the relevant seminar and should trust it. But that's what our registrars do wonderfully. If someone wishes to be trusted by me, I am of course at your disposal.

Topic planning: What is the current status with regard to the implementation of the construction area in Gaden?

We are planning residential development on an area of 2.8 hectares. I hope that with this we can also offer building sites for our citizens. But there is still a lot to regulate. For example, we still need support from the neighboring municipality of Langenbach. Because our Gaden fire brigade is not always registered during the day. And here we rely on support from the Niederhummel fire department. But for this, all the formalities must first be clarified. In addition, the commanders of the two fighters still have to clarify a few details. There is also a need for action in the kindergarten, which is bursting at the seams.

What is the state of affairs here?

We had to act quickly. The old town council decided to have a container system set up next to the St. Georg children's home. From September 1st there will be space for a crèche and a kindergarten group. We have initially leased these containers for three years with the option of an extension. The containers were delivered three weeks late. But I hope that we can finish everything on time. The furniture has been set up, and playground equipment has already been installed outside. And the turf has also been laid. A fence will also be installed.

But that's just a temporary solution, isn't it? Are you planning to build another kindergarten?

Definitely. We have commissioned a needs analysis and will start planning this year. It depends on the result of the analysis whether we build a kindergarten in Eitting or Gaden. We have lots in both places.

Were there any sad moments during your tenure?

The death of our former mayor and honorary citizen Matthias Kammerbauer hit me very hard. He was also a long-time colleague of mine. I really appreciated him. And of course I am sorry for our children that we cannot offer a comprehensive holiday program this year.

Your defeated rival candidate Hermann Hofer is now your deputy. How does the collaboration work?

Excellent. The election campaign is over, there is no aftermath. Now we have to see that we make a difference for our community.

What is your big goal?

I would like to realize a building area in Eitting. We will discuss this in autumn. There are potential locations, but nothing is ready to be said here. We would like to create living space for our young people. Corona has slowed the economy somewhat. But she will also recover. And the demand remains high.
