(CNN Spanish) - Even six months after living with the coronavirus, we continue to have various questions about tests, vaccines and treatments, among others. Like every Friday, Dr. Elmer Huerta clarifies the doubts of our audience.

In this episode, we answer your questions about clinical studies of the vaccine, common symptoms of the virus, the diet that a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 should follow, how to treat mild symptoms of the virus, among other questions.

You can listen to this episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your favorite podcast platform, or read the transcript below.

Conny asks us: Can a person who had covid-19 and was asymptomatic, be contagious one month after having the test?

Good question Conny, knowing that a person who has symptoms is contagious until the 10th day after the onset of symptoms, for a person who has no symptoms, it is obviously impossible to do that calculation.

Despite there being no clear guidelines in this regard, I think that if we consider day one to be the day the test was done, we can expect it to not be contagious 14 days later.

@drhuerta Dr. What is cellular immunity, why are they talking about it now against COVID19, is there how to measure it?

- marcela rodriguez (@maelaprado) August 27, 2020

Cellular immunity is the first to develop when the body is attacked by a pathogen, and it is made up of the proliferation of a family of white blood cells called lymphocytes.

These smart cells constitute memory cells, helping in the recognition of pathogens, if they attack again in the future.

@drhuerta, please, when someone infected by Covid-19 is in the second phase, what food should they be given?

- Wilfredo Herencia (@wherencia) August 27, 2020

Good question Wilfredo, people with covid-19, regardless of the severity of their infection, should eat a balanced diet, with carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water.

A healthy diet will help form cells and antibodies, the elements of the defense system.

@drhuerta a question for the podcast, all this time in his podcast he has mentioned that the transmission of the new coronavirus is spread through the respiratory tract, because measures are being taken to wear glasses and masks, and the recommendation not to touch eyes?

- Pedro Guerrero (@PeterWarriorC) August 27, 2020

Excellent question Pedro, that is because if the virus reaches the eyes, it can be carried by tears to the nasal cavity, the area of the body that has an abundant amount of ACE2 receptors, which the virus uses as a gateway to enter the cells.

@drhuerta a person who has spent more than 16 days with only nasal congestion, little drip and some muscle discomfort, no cough, no fever or any other symptoms could it be covid? Thank you

- ISMAEL FELIPE (@ ISMAELFELIPE2) August 27, 2020

Of course, Ismael, if the person lives in a geographical area where many cases of covid-19 are occurring, those symptoms could be caused by the new coronavirus, so a consultation with the doctor would be highly recommended.

@drhuerta Dr Huerta when volunteering for the vaccine, what is the consent of the Volunteer and what is the responsibility of Moderna? https://t.co/eMU9zvRibW

- Charles Olivia (@CharlesOlivia) August 26, 2020

Good question Charles, in general, the volunteer must know exactly all the details of the experiment, especially the risks and benefits.

For its part, the center that recruits the volunteers must provide the guarantees to cover the eventualities that may arise as a result of the application of the vaccine.

As we mentioned in the August 25 episode, all those details are described in a document called informed consent, which must be read carefully before participating in the trial.

Can people diagnosed with chronic asthma participate in the vaccine trial?

- 𝚁𝚘𝚞𝚜𝚜𝚎 👽🗃️ (@KillaPunchay) August 26, 2020

Each center has its own criteria for choosing candidates.

In general, people with asthma can participate, but ask researchers.

@drhuerta… if in the quick test I got the positive IGG and the negative IGM, is it necessary to do some other test? Do I also have to test the people who live with me? Considering that none of us have had symptoms ...
What do you recommend?

- VIVIANA V (@vivivd) August 26, 2020

Hello Viviana, from the result of that test, it seems that you have already had the disease a few weeks ago.

If no one has symptoms in the house, it is likely that they either were not infected or are asymptomatic, in which case a serological test could help find out if they already had the infection.

@drhuerta doctor good morning, excuse me how long does the vaccine last or is it going to be like the flu vaccine that can be administered once a year or every 2 or 5 years?

- M @ Lly (@ Mallyta_19) August 26, 2020

Excellent question Maly, that is not known.

What's more, that will be one of the many questions that the Phase 3 clinical trials being conducted with the candidate vaccines will answer.

I would like to know what are the blood tests performed on the volunteers

- Nutria Style (@NuriaMelina) August 26, 2020

Good question. Nutria, apart from doing routine exams to check that the general health of the candidate is adequate, it is possible that tests will be done to check if the person already had covid-19.

Dr. Huerta, how important is it to get the Influenza and pneumococcal vaccine? recommends applying them.

- maria (@ maria95000704) August 26, 2020

Hello Maria, it is very important that an elderly person receive these vaccines because they will give them defenses against diseases that are very common in the winter.

Being protected against the flu and pneumonia will prevent the person from getting sick from needing hospitalization.

Dr, please, my son had a molecular test on Friday and yesterday they told him that it was positive, he has no symptoms, what can I do?

- Flor de maria falcon espinoza (@ Flordemariafal1) August 25, 2020

Hello Flor de María, remember that the virus does not have a specific treatment, but the symptoms can be treated with over-the-counter medications.

It is always recommended that patient care is coordinated with the doctor.

@drhuerta @RPPNoticias Doctor that it is true that in Hong Kong there is the first confirmed case of reinfection by coronavirus. The second infection is said to be with the Europa strain. So the vaccine will do?

- My dog and I (@akcornejo) August 25, 2020

As we said in the August 28 episode, that is just one case and we must wait for further investigation.

Also, the fact that there are European, Chinese or North American lineages does not indicate that the virus is different enough that the vaccines that are being tested do not work.

Excuse me until what age you can be a volunteer and what benefits a volunteer has. Thank you.

- Juan (@ Jose74768594) August 24, 2020

Those requirements vary from study to study, Juan.

I recommend that you check with the recruitment center in your country so that you can get that answer.

@drhuerta, can a placebo so impress a person that it causes their immune system to produce antibodies against the coronavirus?

- Hugo (@ Hugo06199289) August 24, 2020

Excellent question Hugo. No, the placebo does not cause organic changes of this type, of antibody production for example.

That is why a placebo is chosen to confront it with the vaccine, which will cause changes in the concentration of antibodies.

@drhuerta
Dr. Huerta, if there are any symptoms of COVID 19, chills, headaches, should you take any medicine, especially Ibuprofen?
Thank you

- Grecia Garcia (@ ggarcia1008) August 24, 2020

Hello Greece, of course yes, if the symptoms of covid-19 are intense they can be treated with symptomatic medications.

In general, the same medicines are used that are used in a flu.

Dr. Huerta, what tests would you recommend for young adults who have experienced mild-moderate symptoms. Should they take a lung scan? A complete health exam? Thank you very much.

- Diana Denisse (@ DianaDenisse69) August 23, 2020

Excellent question Diana, the evaluation of a patient with covid-19 should be done by a medical professional, in whose judgment the auxiliary tests that the patient may need are left.
