Jacob Blake, the black citizen who was shot in the back by a white police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin, handcuffed to his hospital bed, his father said today (Friday), saying his son was still fighting for his life after receiving four bullets that left him paralyzed. This is while an Illinois court has granted the request of the 17-year-old white boy accused of murdering two protesters in the city of Canosha, and his extradition to Wisconsin will be heard in just a month.

Authorities said Blake was handcuffed due to a detention order against him, and police in Kenosha, a city of 100,000 residents on the shores of Lake Michigan, said it was its policy when suspects were not in a detention facility. Kenosha, whose majority of residents are white, has since the Blake shooting on Sunday become the new focus of protests across the United States against police and racist violence, which has continued since the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis three months ago.

"This 17-year-old white man killed two people and blew up another person's arm," said Father Blake Sr.'s father, Kyle Rittenhouse, who was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a dangerous weapon under legal age. Documents from the Kanusha shooting scene from last Tuesday showed police handing out water to Rittenhouse at one point. "He came home, he got water, they gave this guy water and fun. My son got intensive care and paralysis from the arm down."

His father said that when his son woke up, he asked, "Why were I shot so many times?". The officers involved in the incident, including Rusten Shesky, who fired all seven bullets at Blake, were taken on administrative leave while the investigation continued.

The family says it would be a "miracle" if Blake, who was shot in front of his three children sitting in the car, could walk again. The family and protesters are demanding that the police be fired and prosecuted. The investigation is being conducted by the Department of Justice of Wisconsin, a key state in the upcoming November election, and the United States Department of Justice has opened an investigation on suspicion of violating civil rights.

Asked by reporters if he was worried Blake was handcuffed to his hospital bed, Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Tony Everers said: "Damn, yes. I can not understand why this is necessary. He has already paid a terrible price, when he was shot seven or eight times in the back."

The Wisconsin Department of Justice said today that Sky and another police officer, Vincent Arens, twice tried to arrest Blake with a Taser gun, before Sky pulled out his gun. This is the first time the name of Arens, who has served as a police officer in the city since February last year, has been revealed. Britney Maronek is the third policewoman to be involved in the incident. She joined police in January.

The sequence of events that led to Blake's shooting is still unclear. Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Cowell said Wednesday that the confrontation began following a call received from a woman who said "her boyfriend is and should not be in the area." Afterwards, it was alleged, officers tried to stop Blake with a taser gun, but he approached the car, where a knife was found in the front door, and leaned over to it. No other weapons were found in the car.

The family's lawyer, Ben Cramp, denied that Blake had a knife and said he did not tease or threaten police officers before the shooting.

Fighting for his life. Jacob Blake

After three days of clashes between protesters and police in Kenosha, the demonstrations on Wednesday and Thursday were smaller and quieter. President Donald Trump attributed this to the deployment of National Guard forces, at the request of the governor.

"Success: Since the National Guard went bankrupt, Wisconsin, two days ago, there has been no more violence, not even a small problem," tweeted the Republican president, who presents himself as ruling law and order on the streets ahead of the November election, accusing his Democratic opponents of anarchy and violence. "When local authorities legally turn for help, the federal government will act and succeed quickly. Do you hear Portland?" Portland has witnessed protests since Floyd's killing, and has been the focus of a confrontation between local government and the federal government, which voluntarily sent federal agents to quell the riots.

Trump has yet to address directly the Blake shooting, while rival Joe Biden, who leads him in the polls, has talked to his family and promised to fight racial inequality in America.

In Washington today, protesters gathered to hold the annual rally for Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream," which he delivered in 1963 during the struggle for black rights.

Defendant in the murder of protesters: Trump supporter

A court hearing in Illinois today held the extradition of Rittenhouse, who is accused of murdering the protesters, without his participation. He was documented firing at protesters who tried to subdue him, then left the arena peacefully, with his hands in the air and his rifle hanging around his neck. Several police vehicles passed him without stopping him. "I just killed someone," said the boy, who was documented at a Trump rally earlier this year.

His victims were identified as 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum, who was shot dead in a parking lot selling used cars. Another victim was identified as Anthony Hoover, 26. The indictment against him contains parts that are expected to be used in his defense: Before videos and numerous eyewitnesses, the two victims tried to take the rifle from him before being shot.

During the two-minute hearing, a public defender sought to adjourn the hearing for a month so that Rittenhaus could hire the services of a lawyer, and the judge ruled that the next hearing would be held on September 25. He is expected to win the protection of a prominent law firm, whose clients include the president's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and his former adviser Carter Page. The 17-year-old boy, who was arrested at his mother's home in Antioch, Illinois, claims he acted in self-defense.
