The UN Security Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for a year.
And Agence France-Presse reported that the council unanimously adopted during its session today a draft resolution extending for a year the mission of "UNIFIL" and reducing the maximum number of its members from 15 thousand soldiers to 13 thousand.
It is noteworthy that the UNIFIL forces have been deployed in southern Lebanon since 1978 under a mandate from the United Nations, and the powers of these forces were strengthened following the Israeli aggression on Lebanon in 2006 and the issuance of Resolution 1701 by the UN Security Council.
