The US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee began proceedings today to accuse Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of contempt of the House due to its refusal to comply with a subpoena's request to file records relating to "apparent political abuse" of the Department's resources.
Reuters quoted Democratic Committee Chairman Elliot Engle as saying that Pompeo “showed a worrying disregard for the laws and rules governing his behavior and the tools provided by the constitution to prevent government corruption,” adding that the US Secretary of State “apparently believes that the position he holds, the ministry he runs, the people he oversees, and the money The taxpayers that spend on all this are there for his personal and political benefit. ”
Pompeo, in a speech presented to the Republican General Conference last Tuesday, praised Trump's record in terms of foreign policy, while Democrats criticized it, considering it "a violation of the protocol and the law because of his abuse of his position for partisan purposes."
