About 18,000 people took part today (Saturday) in a demonstration in Berlin against the corona's restrictions. The protest took place following the increase in the number of people diagnosed with the virus across Europe, alongside frustration among the public due to measures to curb the spread of the epidemic.

The demonstrators gathered in the area of the Victory Gate in the center of the capital, waving signs reading "Stop the Corona Lies" and "Merkel must go."

A few hours after the protest began, police dispersed the protesters because they did not follow the instructions. According to police, the demonstration was crowded, and participants did not maintain social distance and did not even wear masks.

"Unfortunately we had no other option," the Berlin police Twitter page read. "All the steps taken so far have not resulted in protesters following the instructions."

According to police the dispersal of the protesters was not violent, except for some unusual incidents of roadblocks and the burning of a container. About 3,000 policemen were present at the scene, as part of the forces' preparations for the possibility of violence by the protesters, after some activists encouraged protesters on social media to come to the scene armed.

"We had no other option." Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.

So far, Germany has managed to maintain a relatively low number of infected and dead from Corona compared to the other major countries in Europe. In recent weeks, however, there has been an increase in the number of people diagnosed daily, as in other countries around the world.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel yesterday urged the public to continue to heed instructions to stop the spread of the virus. "This issue is more important than ever," Merkel said. "It must continue to be taken seriously." Earlier this week, the Berlin municipality banned the protest, but the court overturned the decision.

At the same time, similar protests took place in France and Britain. About 200 people demonstrated in Paris against wearing masks, calling for "no to the health dictatorship" and "let our children breathe."

In London, hundreds of protesters gathered against the restrictions on traffic to stop the corona. They claimed the plague was not real, expressed opposition to vaccines against the virus, and carried signs reading "Pike News," "Masks are barriers."
