The coronavirus crisis makes conspiracy theorists like Attila Hildmann loud. A poster campaign draws attention to the dangers of these crude theories.

  • Wild conspiracy theories circulate during the coronavirus crisis.
  • The Stadtjugendring Kaufbeuren is strongly critical of the statements made by corona conspirators.
  • With a poster campaign they draw attention to the topic and not only receive praise for it

Kaufbeuren - In times of the coronavirus pandemic , conspiracy theorists and pandemic deniers are getting a lot of momentum. Two Kaufbeuren warn of the dangerousness of the abstruse theses that corona conspirators are currently spreading.

Coronavirus conspirators: Attila Hildman railed against the federal government - poster campaign in Kaufbeuren is intended to raise awareness

66,000 members (as of July 15, 2020) have already gathered in the Telegram group of corona conspirator Attila Hildmann *. There the author of vegan cookbooks spread absurd theories among his followers. Hildmann speaks of a "pharmaceutical mafia" and has  conspired against the  federal government . Most recently, the Berliner even demanded the death penalty for a Green politician *.

The Kaufbeurer Till Nissle and Kilian Herbschleb from the Stadtjugendring are extremely critical of such coronavirus conspiracy theories . “Behind conspiracy theories is often the denigration of a minority or the attempt to divide society: into top and bottom or good and bad,” says the website of a campaign that the two of them launched.

Poster campaign against coronavirus conspiracy theories in Kaufbeuren (Bavaria)

Behind the campaign is a poster campaign  with which Till Nissle and Kilian Herbschleb draw attention to the current boom in conspiracy theories . That's why there are turquoise-green posters hanging in various places in the Bavarian town of Kaufbeuren , on which sentences like “The Easter bunny is to blame for not becoming a top model!” Or “From a reliable source I know that it is because of Santa Claus that I did not become a millionaire !" stand.

With this they want to stimulate the viewer to think about wild conspiracy theories on the one hand , but on the other hand to approach the topic in a humorous way. "We did not want to come along with the raised index finger, but to approach it in a fun way, in order to reach the people and not scare them," said Till Nisse opposite the Bavarian radio.

Kaufbeuren: Feedback on Facebook on the poster campaign against coronavirus conspiracy theories

So far, the campaign in Kaufbeuren has had a very positive response, reports br.de. Kilian Herbschleb also noticed negative comments: "In some of them we were compared with the book burning and with Hitler's propaganda means," he says. He and his colleague  Till Nissle are currently still considering how to deal with feedback, that hits such extremes.

Coronavirus conspirators are also currently active in Munich * . Only recently did they make their theories visible in the public cityscape * by smearing several walls in Munich's university district. A video of a corona demo in Berlin also caused a stir, in which a police officer let a corona conspirator come up with just a single question. * 24hamburg.de and tz.de are part of the Ippen-Digital network
