Prime Minister Netanyahu today (Saturday) appointed Minister of Higher Education and Water Resources Zeev Elkin to head a team of ministers that will examine the possibility of a travel route to Uman, under stricter restrictions by the Ukrainian authorities. The team consists of Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, Interior Minister Aryeh Deri and Science Minister Yizhar Shai.
Recall, the Ukrainian government on Wednesday approved the application of a temporary ban on the entry of foreigners into the country. According to her announcement, their arrival in her territory will be banned in September, due to the increase in corona morbidity, and to avoid the gathering of tens of thousands expected on Rosh Hashanah.
Clashes were reported yesterday at the entrance to the Ukrainian city. A video circulated on social media shows its residents trying to expel the followers who come to the city, for fear of another outbreak of the corona.
Corona's commissioner, Prof. Roni Gamzo, expressed strong opposition to the flights. According to him, the pilgrimage to the destination "could lead Israel to a closure." Minister Edelstein said on Wednesday: "With all the sorrow involved, the national responsibility says it is not the time to fly to the tomb of Rabbi Nachman Maoman."
