Wildlife conservation activists in Florida, USA, have found a colossal prehistoric turtle due to its strange shape and the accumulation of algae on its shield.
The Daily Mail reported that biologists working for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission were able to catch three crocodile turtles last week, one of which weighed about 45 kilograms.
According to the scientists' post on Facebook, this huge reptile, known as Macroschili Swansea, is considered a new species of turtle.
Scientists found a male weighing 45 kg and a female weighing 20 kg in a circular trap in the New River north of Gainesville, Florida, along with another male weighing 29 kg was found in a nearby trap and scientists previously believed that there was one species of living turtle from the crocodile family. But they found a third species, a turtle Balchikula, which came as a surprise to them and this species of alligator turtle is considered one of the largest freshwater turtles in North America at all.
