After more than two months of hospitalization and an unequal fight against the coronavirus, Father Basilico "Bachi" Brítez died this Saturday morning at the San Camilo clinic, in the Federal Capital.

He was 52 years old and from the beginning he was considered a risk patient since he suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problems. As soon as the first symptoms appeared, he was admitted. At that time, he recognized that due to his daily work in the Almafuerte neighborhood, putting his chest to the pandemic among the most neglected, he was exposed to the virus.

The renowned villero priest, who developed an important religious and community work in many neighborhoods of La Matanza, mainly in Puerta de Hierro, was staying in the health center located on Angel Gallardo Avenue, in the City of Buenos Aires, midle June.

The popular Matanzas priest was the priest of Villa Palito and he dedicated his life to the accompaniment, attention and containment in the most neglected sectors.

Among the first repercussions of his death is the tweet published by Santiago Cafiero, Chief of the Nation's Cabinet, in which he lamented the loss of the priest and acknowledged his struggle "for the dignity of the humble."

His work was so relevant that even Pope Francis himself, a few weeks ago, had asked for his health. "I think of Father Bachi, who worked in Saint Petersburg, Iron Gate and all those neighborhoods to which he dedicates his life. He is fighting it, it is not right," the Pontiff had warned in reference to Britez, who in that then he remained in intensive care and with respiratory assistance.

News in development.
