In total, at least 25,029,250 cases, including 842,915 deaths, have been reported. Almost 4 out of 10 cases are in the United States and Brazil, the two most affected countries with 5,960,652 cases (182,760 deaths) and 3,846,153 cases (120,262 deaths) respectively.

The pace of the pandemic appears to be stabilizing around the world, with a million additional cases detected roughly every 4 days since mid-July.

It was 94 days between the announcement of the first official case in China and the identification of a million infections worldwide, then 149 more days to exceed the milestone of 12 and a half million cases reported on July 11 . The number of known infections has since doubled, in just over a month and a half.

After being struck first by the Covid-19 pandemic, Asia is again the region of the world which has recorded the most new cases over the last seven days (570,819), of which more than 8 out of 10 only in India . Latin America and the Caribbean (552,238), Canada and the United States (296,503), Europe (221,670), the Middle East (80,966), Africa (59,688) and Oceania (1,670) follow. ).

In total, behind Latin America and the Caribbean (7,222,153 cases including 273,887 deaths), Canada and the United States recorded 6,088,321 cases for 191,910 deaths, ahead of Asia (5,060,936, 96,124), l 'Europe (3,911,286, 214,995) and the Middle East (1,479,598, 35,959).

Africa (1,238,149, 29,399), the least affected continent after Oceania (28,807, 641), has recorded more than half of its cases in South Africa (nearly 640,000).

India announced on Sunday that it had recorded 78,761 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours, a new world record. India is the country with the most new infections over the past week (488,271), ahead of the United States (293,419), which is approaching the threshold of 6 million officially declared cases on Sunday, Brazil (263,791), Colombia (66,811) and Argentina (64,437).

The pace of the increase in the number of new cases has exploded in the last seven days in Argentina (+ 35%), which surpassed the 400,000 mark on Saturday.

The figure for the number of infections only reflects a share of the actual number of cases, with many countries using the tests only for tracing or not having sufficient resources to carry out large-scale screening campaigns.
