It was to be feared: in Krün and Wallgau it is now fixed. The Advent market for the senses and the Christmas market in the Kurpark will not take place. Under the corona-related conditions, those responsible cannot and do not want to hold off the markets. Only in Mittenwald is there still a tiny hope. But negligibly small.

Isar Valley - It is much more than a mulled wine marathon that can be found in many promenade streets in the run-up to Christmas. The Wallgau Advent Market for the Senses really lives up to its name. Every two years it lives from the homely atmosphere, for which the residents of the Sonnleiten are primarily responsible: They serve food in and out of their buildings between the picturesque rows of houses. That is why hundreds of visitors flock to the market every two years. Because of the mood. Because of the authentic setting. Because of the cozy get-together in a small area.

But that is exactly what is fatal for the organizers of the Wallgau Aktiv association. The Corona requirements would destroy all the beauty that characterizes the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle. Either through restrictions or prohibitions. "That would take away the charm of the Advent market", regrets chairman Florian Holzer.

The CSU parish council and its members have long considered. We had many conversations in the past few months. Weighing the pros and cons. The decision on Wednesday was anything but easy for him. “Under the current conditions we cannot and do not want to organize the market.” The association cancels. Not just because of the lack of flair. Also the mask requirement and the observance of the minimum distance are “too great a responsibility” for the organizers given the expected number of visitors. As things stand now, Wallgau Aktiv as a club should be responsible for all violations. And because the uncertainty is so great, he did not postpone the market, but canceled it entirely. “After all, we don't yet know how the situation will develop in the coming year.” So Holzer is sticking to the two-year cycle. The next Advent market will therefore only take place on the first Advent weekend in 2022.

In Krün, the decision to cancel the Christmas market in the Kurpark was made a little earlier. "Nobody wants to and cannot be responsible for compliance with the requirements," says Mayor Thomas Schwarzenberger (CSU). The number of visitors is difficult or impossible to control. “A bunch of people stands together at the mulled wine stand.” If the worst case occurs - numerous corona infected people in the aftermath of the event - the question of liability also arises. But for Schwarzenberger, the social get-togethers are part of it. He can therefore very well understand that the market will be postponed until next year.

In Mittenwald, the review is not yet fully completed, says Jürgen Wild from Alpenwelt Karwendel. But even here the chances are rather bad. It remains to be seen whether there will be a plan B, for example with many smaller actions distributed throughout the Isar valley. Especially since it is not only about important income for the community, but also primarily for the clubs.
