After Donald Trump and the giants of Silicon Valley, the Chinese Communist regime is in turn entering the TikTok dance.
Beijing has sealed off negotiations for the sale of the star app of Chinese group ByteDance to American investors, by drawing new restrictions on exports of technological products on Friday.
It thus offers itself a right of veto over these burning discussions in the midst of a strategic standoff with Washington.
China's Commerce Ministry has extended
restrictions on the export of hitherto military
technology to "civilian-use technology"
, updating old legislation and placing the fate of the star teen app in its clutches.
"TikTok's algorithm falls under these restrictions
", Judge Cheng Xiaohe, professor at Renmin University, in Beijing.
Clearly, the second world power arrogates to itself the right, if necessary, to prohibit the transfer of the app in the name of the defense of its sovereignty.
