The archaeological excavations at the site revealed since 1987 the periods that passed on the site from Akkadian, Mitanni, Assyrian, Greek, Hellenistic, Parthian, Roman and Arab-Islamic civilization.

The archaeological researcher, Dr. Abd al-Masih Baghdou confirmed that a group of tanateurs for bread and large pottery jars were used for storage, in addition to several graves, one of which contained a set of pottery and bronze tools, as well as a level dating back to the end of the Akkadian period that contained two walls built of stone.

Baghdou explained that the archaeological discoveries showed parts of a palace dating back to the Akkadian period, consisting of three large rooms and a square covered with grilled mud built with basalt stones, and two buildings located on the northern side believed to have been used as stores and warehouses for the palace with a third building consisting of several rooms and a street separating the buildings belonging to the palace.

According to Baghdou, a cemetery dating back to the fourteenth century AD was also placed on top of the palace, in addition to parts of a building dating back to the Akkadian period nine meters long that contained a four-meter-long kitchen inside which was found two tandoori, and next to it was a celestial yard and a huge wall with stone foundations two meters wide for rooms built of basalt stone It dates back to the post-Akkadian period.

He pointed out that the most important discovery at the site is that it is two temples and residential buildings dating back to the Khabur period that contain a group of important finds, including a group of pottery vessels inscribed with Indian, animal and plant figures dating back to the Middle Bronze period, parts of cuneiform inscriptions, and a cylindrical seal of an ancient Assyrian style showing the ancient name that The Assyrians used it for the site, which is the land of Abum.
