The executive works on violence against mayors

Faced with the resurgence of attacks, the Prime Minister is organizing a meeting on Wednesday in the presence of associations of elected officials.

In this context of increased violence, elected officials are particularly affected.

At the beginning of August, the mayor of Saint-Philippe-d'Aiguille, a village of 400 souls in Gironde, was thus severely beaten after an intervention for nighttime noise.

Upon learning of this attack, the Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, took his phone to offer his colleague Jacqueline Gourault, in charge of Territorial Cohesion and Relations with local authorities, a consultation with associations of 'elected.

The Minister accepts and suggests involving Gerald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior.

The meeting, which was to take place at the Hôtel de Castries, Ministry of Territorial Cohesion, was finally relocated to Matignon: the head of government, Jean Castex, wanted to chair this meeting himself, in order to mark his interest in the subject.
