Haim and Daniel (pseudonyms), a gay couple, only intended to help a young man who came out of the closet and was looking for friends to talk to in Tiberias.

But they claim they were attacked in their home by four young men, shouting homophobic slogans at them.

Since then, they said, they have lived in fear, and even come down armed with a stick and a knife to throw out the garbage.

Following their complaint, an investigation was opened that is still ongoing.

The two have been living together for about three years.

Haim said that his partner came across a forum of the proud community, in a message from a young man "who said he came from a religious home and it was very difficult for him, and he would be happy to meet friends from the area to share."

According to him, they immediately decided to help because "we know what Tiberias is - a very ultra-Orthodox city, where being gay is not a simple and easy thing. And we turned straight away and offered help."

For about two months, the couple talked to the young man about twice a week on the phone or in WhatsApp and telegram messages.

"We talked about meeting after the Corona," they said.

Haim said that on June 23, they received a message from the young man who said he was near their home, after trying several times to persuade them to meet with him in secluded places on the street.

They invited him because they did not suspect anything, but to their surprise he did not arrive alone.

"Ten minutes after he said he was in the area, he really came. We explained to him how and where, and what the apartment number was, and as soon as he walked in the door, not only did he come in. Three other friends came in with him."

"Within two seconds the whole house became a battlefield."

"The first thing they did was come out on us with curses against a homophobic background," Haim described.

"One of them took a knife from the kitchen table and pinned my partner to the neck. Violent beatings and stabbing attempts began. Within two seconds the whole house became a battlefield."

He said it took him a while to recover, until he located a metal cup and hit the person who attacked him and ran out into the hallway, where his partner was.

The two went up to their neighbors' apartment.

After the incident, the two called the police, who arrived after the attackers had already fled.

"The police are in fairly quick and determined action and apprehended two of them that evening," Haim said.

"When they left the apartment and we returned, we found out that they also stole my partner's cell phone and a professional camera worth ten thousand shekels."

He added that "at the same time, there were other police officers, who took testimony, photographed the wounds. At the same time, we located the phone and gave the police the location. The police found the phone and the camera."

"As soon as he walked in the door, three other friends came in with him."

Documentation of the assault of one of the spouses

He said, however, police located two of the attackers, but did not take documentation from cameras in the building as well as from a camp opposite.

The other two suspects, Haim said, police initially said they identified but were unable to locate until recently.

"We do not feel that the Tiberias police care about this thing. If they had behaved differently in this case, and perhaps an agile indictment had been filed, perhaps the guys from Jaffa (the attack in the Jaffa port, MH) who suffered these beatings would not have experienced it because it was Deterrent. "

According to Haim, the move was planned in advance." It was well planned, because at first he asked us to go down and meet him on some dark beach, and after that on some dark alley.

Each time he tried to get us out of our house to a place where no one was.

And we said 'we have a house, come drink coffee, talk and get to know, why go to a dark place?'.

Woe to us if we were to go to such a place.

I don't know if there was anyone who would speak at the moment. "

"Going to throw garbage with a knife and stick"

Haim described the fears that remained with them.

"We do not know what is happening now with the investigation, living in fear in our house. We do not know exactly who the people who attacked us, they can be anywhere. We are going to throw garbage with a knife and stick - to me it does not sound logical."

This month, an indictment was filed against young people from Lod for assaulting gay boys in the port of Jaffa.

They were charged with assault causing actual bodily harm in aggravated circumstances, motivated by hostility towards the public due to sexual orientation.

According to Hila Peer, chairman of the Association for the LGBT People, who accompanies the couple from Tiberias, "this is a violent and shocking hate crime that has joined serious hate crimes against the LGBT people recently.

The Israeli government must wake up and invest more resources in education, enforcement and information and before the next case of violence, as we presented in the "Roadmap for LGBT Rights".

She added, "Everyone deserves the right to security and it is not possible for the LGBT to be attacked and threatened just because of who they are.

We demand that the Israeli police prosecute the criminal attackers and call on anyone who has experienced "phobia to contact us."

The Israel Police responded: "Upon receiving the complaint from the police, police and forensic investigators arrived at the scene, collected findings and opened an investigation, in which three suspects were arrested on the same day.

The investigation is still ongoing and naturally, we do not provide details about ongoing investigations.

We will continue to investigate the case professionally and thoroughly and carry out all the investigative actions required in order to arrive at an investigation of the truth. "
