The body of a newborn baby was discovered Monday in a waste treatment center in Montblanc (Hérault), near Béziers, the public prosecutor confirmed to AFP.

The baby, a little girl, was found in a locker where waste from several waste reception centers in the Pézenas and Agde sector was stored, said a source familiar with the matter.

The agents of the center alerted the gendarmes who froze the scene and took samples. An investigation is underway,
”explained the mayor of Montblanc, Claude Allingri. The investigation was entrusted to the gendarmes of Pézenas who have already taken DNA samples from the victim. An autopsy of the body will be performed in Montpellier, added a close source.
