At a demonstration by the environmental protection movement Extinction Rebellion in London, around 90 participants were arrested by early Tuesday evening.
According to the police, the activists were arrested, among other things, for obstructing traffic and, in at least one case, on suspicion of bodily harm.
Many protesters sat on streets near Parliament to block traffic.
Many protesters displayed signs and banners that read "There is no planet B" and "We want to live".
British activist Sarah Lunnon warned that further hesitation on climate policy will have "catastrophic effects" on the future of every individual.
Thousands of activists were estimated to have gathered in the British capital to protest against global warming.
They marched through the government district, singing and dancing loudly.
They had announced that they wanted to demonstrate for a total of two weeks.
