Anti-racism protests renewed in Portland, Oregon, the largest city in the western US state of Oregon, as police forces used smoke bombs and tear gas to quell the demonstrators and disperse them by force.
Reuters reported that between 200 and 300 people demonstrated in central Portland last night, demanding the resignation of the city’s mayor, Ted Wheeler, and clashes also took place between police and a number of protesters.
Since the murder of African American George Floyd by the police on May 25, Portland has witnessed many protests and hundreds of demonstrators were arrested, while the US administration deployed federal forces last July to quell the demonstrators, amid repeated threats by US President Donald Trump to use force to end the protests.
