The attempt of the ruling party to continue with the virtual sessions in the
Chamber of Deputies
without renewing the agreement with the opposition that would allow the regulation that indicates that legislators must be present in their benches put at stake this week an important ally: the
unions Kirchnerists
who work in Congress.
On Monday, the four unions that have a presence among the employees of the chambers of senators and deputies released a statement in which they rejected the idea of the legislators of
Together for Change
to appear on the premises for the session scheduled for this Tuesday by the late.
The four signatories of the statement are
Norberto Di Próspero
(Association of Legislative Personnel),
Martín Roig
(UPCN Congress),
Claudio Britos
(ATE Congress) and
José Rodríguez
(Association of Senior Congress Personnel).
Of all of them, the one with the most weight is Di Próspero, who has
run the APL for 30 years
, even though he has formally held the position of General Secretary of the union since 2004.
Norberto Di Próspero, in 2004, shortly after assuming as Secretary General of APL, when he stopped the sessions of Congress due to a union protest.
Enrolled in Kirchnerism, Di Próspero gained some weight in the CGT from a tiny union, with less than 8,000 members.
His intention to transcend politics even led him to
put up parades
on Route 2 during the summers to promote himself in front of the millions of people who travel to the Buenos Aires coast between December, January and February.
Di Próspero established excellent relations with the heads of the Senate and Deputies during the governments of Cristina Kirchner, especially with former Vice President Amado Boudou, who is currently in prison, convicted of corruption.
In the statement, the unions warn that chamber employees "will
only be present on the premises
" if health care standards are respected.
The decision of Di Próspero and the other union leaders thus adds another spice to the discussion on how to hold the sessions carried out by the ruling party and the opposition in Deputies since August 4, when
the agreement between the Frente de Everyone and Together for Change
to be able to meet virtually, something that is not allowed in the chamber's regulations.
The dispute
was aggravated
when Together for Change warned that it is not willing to treat in this way the
Judicial Reform
that the Senate approved or any other initiative that requires in-depth debates among legislators.
