Ice hockey Bayernligist ESC Geretsried has filled its second contingent position in the team with the Czech defender Marek Haloda.

The club wants to play four preparatory games from September 13th.

  • Marek Haloda is the latest addition to the River Rats

  • The training begins in Bad Tölz until there is ice in Geretsried

  • The ESC has agreed on four preparatory games from September 13th

Geretsried

- It is a good tradition in Geretsried ice hockey that one likes to fall back on the excellently trained players from the neighboring country of the Czech Republic for the contingent positions in the team.

And not only for the attack, where after heroes of earlier days like Vladimir Kames and Rostislav Vlach there is a long-running favorite with Ondrej Horvath, which is already in its seventh season with the River Rats.

TuS and ESC also benefited from Czech technology and game intelligence on the defensive, if you think of former class defenders such as Heinrich Korph, Petr Kasik and Vlastimil Vajdak.

Last year, Ondrej Stava was able to prove himself on the right defensive side in the first block.

The 25-year-old's balance sheet was quite good on paper with five goals and 27 assists in 30 games.

But those responsible were not really happy with the penalty time account (58 minutes) and his defensive behavior.

The River Rats therefore hope for an improvement from his compatriot Marek Haloda, who comes from the Czech second division climber Draci Sumperk.

Geretsried is the 28-year-old's first international post, who is accompanied by his girlfriend Vanessa.

Peter Holdschik is expecting a lot from the newcomer: “First and foremost, we need stability on the defensive, which Marek can certainly bring in with his experience.

However, he also has appealing offensive qualities, which he should show in excess.

He is in the best ice hockey age and we are happy to be able to sign a player of his caliber, ”explains the second chairman.

Haloda comes from the offspring of HC Zlin

It is thanks to the traditionally good connections to the Czech Republic that the contact to Haloda came about in the first place.

The left-handed shooter, who is 1.78 tall and weighs 71 kilos, comes from the offspring of HC Zlin, where he played together with last year's Horvath substitute David Hrazdira.

Haloda, whose brother Ondrej plays ice hockey in Sweden, has only been active in the third division of his home country for the past seven years.

For HC Prerov, VHK Vsetin, HC Novy Jicin, SHK Hodonin and most recently Draci Sumperk, he scored 27 goals and 92 assists with 24 penalty minutes in 260 games.

The 28-year-old, who will hit the jersey with the number 64 at the ESC, was usually among the best scorers of his respective team.

In any case, Peter Holdschik is happy to have "completed the last piece of the squad planning puzzle" - even if there are still three contract extensions pending by local players.

The first units on ice will still take place in Bad Tölz, and in the middle to the end of September it will finally be back on the bare ground in the renovated Heinz Schneider stadium at home.

However, the board of directors has no time to rest.

The Bavarian Ice Sports Association (BEV) has since confirmed the start of the Bayern League season on October 2nd, and the rules regarding spectators are still completely unclear.

Clubs, associations and health authorities are also in constant contact with regard to the hygiene concept.

As soon as there is really reliable information here, the ESC will inform its fans.

First home game on September 27th against Buchloe

The River Rats' preparation plan, however, is fixed.

It starts with a match at ESV Buchloe (Sunday, September 13th, 6 pm);

this is followed by games at TSV Peißenberg (Sun., September 20, 5:30 p.m.) and at EC Pfaffenhofen (Friday, September 25, 8 p.m.).

The ESC will meet the Bayernliga successor ESV Buchloe again for the first time in their own hall on Sunday, September 27th at 6 p.m.
