A new British study warned of the consequences of melting glaciers on the surface of the Earth, which will increase the proportion of floods, which will affect 16 million people by the end of the century.
Scientists from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom and the Danish Institute of Meteorology, in a study published in the journal Yark Alert, said that the melting of glaciers is leading the planet to the worst possible global warming scenario as the ice sheets that are melting rapidly in Greenland and Antarctica have raised sea levels by 1.8 cm since 1990s.
The study confirmed that the speed of melting glaciers exceeds the speed of melting according to existing calculations by scientists, indicating the potential risks associated with rising sea levels, as recent observations of scientists show that the oceans are now rising by 4 millimeters per year.
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, this corresponds to the worst-case scenario of global warming.
