New York State police put a hood on the head of a naked black detainee and then pinned him to the sidewalk for two minutes, and he died a week later.

The incident took place about six months ago, but the death of Daniel Parod on March 30 did not receive public attention, until his family released a video tonight (Thursday) from police body cameras and recordings of his arrest in the city of Rochester.

"I called so that my brother could get help, not so that he would be lynched," his brother, Joe Parod, said during the press conference.

"How do you see him like that and not say outright, 'This man is defenseless, naked on the ground. He's already handcuffed. Come on.' How many more brothers need to die for society to understand that this needs to end?"

Documents show Parod, who took off his clothes, obeying police officers when they asked him to sit down and put his hands behind his back.

Parod was agitated and he shouted as he sat handcuffed on the sidewalk, while light snow fell.

"Give me your gun, I need it," he shouted.

Subsequently, the police put a white "spitting hood" on his head, as part of a policy designed to protect police officers from the saliva of detainees.

In those days, New York was dealing with the onset of the corona virus outbreak.

The video shows his head being held for two minutes, then the cops removed the hood and handcuffs.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene performed CPR on Parod, before evacuating him by ambulance.

The medical report stated that it was a murder, caused as a result of suffocation.

The New York State Attorney General said the investigation is ongoing.

The fatal incident occurred two months before George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis by a white police officer, who pinned his knee to his neck for nearly nine minutes during an arrest.

The event ignited demonstrations across the United States, and racism and police violence against blacks became major issues in the two-month presidential election.
