The Greens at Tegernsee want to tackle the issue of cycling - across the valley.

Instead of going it alone, they are calling for a common concept for all communities around the lake.

  • At the Tegernsee, more and more pedestrians, cyclists and motorists come into the enclosure

  • Greens at Tegernsee see great potential for improvement in cycling

  • Joint application submitted for a valley-wide cycling concept

Bad Wiessee

- Others have already recognized that there is a lot of room for improvement when it comes to cycling in the Tegernsee Valley.

Among other things, the SPD has taken up the cause of the issue, and the five municipal councils of the Tegernsee Valley have already dealt with different levels of intensity with concepts for their respective locations.

The Greens - represented with twelve councilors in the five valley committees since the local elections - now want to see these efforts bundled.

You have submitted a valley-wide application for a joint cycling concept.

Thomas Tomaschek, chairman of the valley-wide Green Association, believes that such a cross-location application is so far unique at Tegernsee.

"We're pretty proud of it," he said on Thursday morning at a press conference at the Hotel Post in Bad Wiessee.

Cyclists, pedestrians and drivers are increasingly getting into each other's enclosure

When it comes to cycling, there are many places in the Tegernsee valley.

Example security.

Often there is no space at all on which cyclists can ride and have to use sidewalks.

“I'm just an obstacle,” Tomaschek made clear.

Pedestrians, cyclists and motorists would therefore increasingly get into each other's enclosure, added Laura Wagner, a local council colleague from Gmund.

A large-scale concept would therefore benefit everyone.

In addition, uniform signage for cyclists - both on the main road and on the lake - would be desirable, said Marcus Staudacher, Green City Councilor in Tegernsee.

According to the Greens, a traffic planning office for all five valley communities should take responsibility for the individual measures to improve cycling.

Also to use synergies, as Karl Schönbauer from Bad Wiessee made clear.

Bad Wiessee alone has its cycle traffic concept costing a good 37,000 euros

The health resort is one of those valley communities that have already commissioned a concept and are striving for membership in the working group for bicycle-friendly municipalities in Bavaria (AGFK).

Rottach-Egern also wants to apply for the award, Gmund has already successfully completed the process as a “pioneer”.

The municipalities are supported in their efforts by the Kaulen specialist office in Munich.

Bad Wiessee, for example, has its bicycle traffic concept costing a good 37,000 euros according to a municipal council resolution from May.

In addition to the already implemented wheel protection strips on the main road, Bad Wiessee also needs crossing aids, charging stations for e-bikes and possibly a speed limit in some places, Schönbauer made clear: "The concept of the Kaulen office is very extensive." Kreuth too and Tegernsee have already initiated the topic.

Greens hope that the application will be dealt with in the committees soon

The valley-wide application by the Greens to create a joint cycling concept is now on the table in all five communities.

Tomaschek hopes that the respective committees will be discussed on this immediately after the summer break - either in September or October.

“After all, this is also about climate protection,” the Rottacher made clear yesterday.

Tomaschek is convinced: In order to strengthen bicycle traffic, politicians must intervene.

“It is possible to improve the current situation - there is enormous potential,” said the chairman.

He hopes that the Tegernsee will be able to show the first visible results within the next two years.

"That should be feasible."
