Good news from South America:

After Honduras recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel last year, and opened it in an official ceremony in the presence of the President of Honduras, the Office of Trade Relations, it seems that the recognition is finally moving to practical lines.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Honduras stated that very soon Honduras will formally move its embassy to the capital, and at the same time Israel will open an embassy in the capital of Honduras.

On August 20 this year, Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi inaugurated the Ministry of Cooperation in Honduras in a virtual meeting with his colleague, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Honduras, Lisandro Rossells, and in the presence of the President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernandez.

The Israeli office in Honduras will focus on promoting joint projects in the fields of economics and development.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Honduras, Lisandro Rossell, made a broad statement to the media on a variety of foreign issues, including addressing the warming of relations with Israel.

He said, "We are a few days before the opening of an Israeli mission with us, and at the same time the relocation of our embassy to Jerusalem."

The Israeli representation will most likely be a commercial-economic representation.

Honduras, led by President Juan Orlando Arnandes, has begun to focus on economic and technological ties with Europe and Israel, which is also reflected in a series of Honduran Foreign Ministry appointments to these countries.

As you may recall, on March 24, 2019, the President of Honduras announced the opening of a diplomatic mission in Jerusalem, and later on September 1 of that year, he visited Israel to inaugurate the official Jerusalem Commercial Office in the city.

Later that year it was reported that the Honduran embassy was expected to be relocated to Jerusalem, and apparently the actual conditions for this move had now matured.

On the part of Israel, the reopening of the embassy in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, will be a return to the reality that existed until 1995, when the embassy was closed due to budget cuts in the Foreign Ministry.

Further evidence of warming: In January of this year, the Honduran presidency announced that "Honduras is joining Guatemala and other countries and announcing that Hezbollah will be declared an international terrorist organization throughout the country."
