The Bahrain government announced tonight (Thursday) that it has accepted the UAE government's request to allow flights between the UAE and Israel to pass through its airspace.

A source in the Bahrain government confirmed that the country's Ministry of Transportation and Communications had responded to a request submitted on the subject by the United Arab Emirates Civil Aviation Authority.

Bahrain's announcement comes a day after the Saudi Arabian government announced it would regularly allow flights between Israel and Abu Dhabi to pass over its airspace.

This announcement also came following an official request from the UAE government, and diplomatic efforts by senior adviser to United States President Jared Kushner.

A source close to the matter said that Bahrain's decision was made following White House diplomatic efforts.

President Kushner's senior adviser, who visited Manama on Tuesday, raised the issue in talks with the King and Crown Prince of Bahrain.

According to the source, the Bahraini waited to see if Saudi Arabia would respond to the American request and after seeing that this was the case they decided to respond as well.

The Bahraini decision gives impetus to the normalization agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

It is also a normalization step on the part of Bahrain, with which the United States is currently in talks about the possibility of following in the footsteps of the United Arab Emirates and establishing diplomatic relations with Israel.

On a practical level, Bahrain's decision may shorten the flight time between Israel and the United Arab Emirates by a few minutes.
