In Bavaria, schools should open at the beginning of September despite the Corona crisis.

Prime Minister Markus Söder has now announced far-reaching innovations including a mask requirement.

  • The schools in Bavaria open on September 8th.

  • The appointment falls at a time when the coronavirus numbers are rising again.

  • Markus Söder has therefore announced extensive innovations for starting school in the Free State.

Update from September 3rd

: The Bavarian

Ministry of Culture

has now published the rules for school attendance by students with a cold.

According to this, children and adolescents with mild symptoms such as

runny nose

and occasional

cough are

only allowed to go to school if they have not developed a fever within 24 hours.

Until then they have to stay at home.

There is an exception for primary school students, as can be seen from the revised general hygiene plan of the ministry.

Sick children with a fever, cough, sore throat or ear, severe stomach pain, vomiting or diarrhea must definitely stay at home.

There is an exception to this baseline - analogous to the day-care centers - for

elementary school students

and the elementary school levels of the support centers: They are allowed to continue to school with mild symptoms such as colds without fever or occasional cough, provided the number of new infections in the region is less than 50 each 100,000 inhabitants in the past 7 days (so-called 7-day incidence *).

If they are more seriously ill, however, even the youngest have to stay at home.

And this until they have had at least minor

symptoms

for at least 24 hours

and have been free of fever for 36 hours.

If the number of new infections in the district of the person concerned is over 50 per 100,000 inhabitants within the last 7 days, the pupils are only allowed to go

back to

school

after presenting a

negative test

for the coronavirus or a medical certificate

School start in Bavaria despite the corona virus: Söder with a new mask - the overview

First report from August 31

: Munich - The coronavirus numbers are currently rising again across Europe.

Sometimes there is talk of a second wave *.

The Free State of

Bavaria *

is once again particularly affected in Germany

.

The date for the start of

school is

now approaching

.

Despite the ongoing pandemic, the Free State wants to stick to the date (

September 8

).

However,

after consultations with parents, teachers and student representatives on Monday

, Prime Minister

Markus Söder

announced

far-reaching

measures

to make starting school as safe as possible.

School start in Bavaria: Söder announces mask requirement in class - with one exception

The key point is that in Bavaria, when school starts, all students in class are required to wear a mask.

This obligation initially applies

for nine school days

, i.e. for the first two weeks of the school year.

Wearing masks was called a "safety buffer".

Only

elementary school

students are

exempt

from the mask requirement in class

.

Teachers also have to wear masks in the classroom.

Summit with the school family: safety first!

Therefore, in the first two weeks of school there is a mask requirement in secondary schools.

Thereafter, regionally limited depending on the infection rate.

Thank you for the constructive exchange with student, parent and teacher associations!

The mask requirement is part of the Bavarian

hygiene concept

, with which regular operation is to be guaranteed despite the ongoing pandemic.

This includes that in order to minimize the risk of infection with the

coronavirus *

in buildings and wherever a minimum distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained

, there is an obligation to wear mouth and nose protection.

Corona in Bavaria: Söder announces innovations for the start of school

After the first nine days of school

, according to the current status, the mask requirement no longer applies.

However, it can then be

extended to

a

limited extent in certain regions

or newly imposed.

This depends on the development of the number of cases *.

The aim is to keep regular lessons as good as possible even in a crisis.

"We want to have school again in Bavaria," said Söder.

Bavaria will formally adopt its

school concept

in the cabinet meeting

on Tuesday.

Since Education Minister Michael Piazolo (Free Voters) also took part in the education summit in the State Chancellery, approval in the coalition is certain.

School start in Bavaria despite Corona: More innovations are to come

In addition to the mask requirement, Bavaria wants to introduce further regulations to protect students.

This includes, for example, that better

ventilation systems

could be installed in schools in the

long term

.

Another important point is the

way to school

:

More school buses

should

be

used to prevent a crowd on the way to school.

"The Free State pays the additional costs if more buses are used," said Markus Söder.

In addition, the technical equipment of the schools is being improved: According to Söders, "up to 370,000 mobile devices for students and teachers" will be purchased.

In Bavaria, face-to-face teaching takes precedence over distance teaching.

That is why we help with public transport: The Free State bears the additional costs if more buses are used.

- Markus Söder (@Markus_Soeder) August 31, 2020

The Free State is taking a similar path as North Rhine-Westphalia in the fight against the corona virus.

Here, too, after the holidays, masking was required for 14 days in class at secondary schools.

After the number of cases in the most populous federal state recently fell against the national trend, the mask requirement in class ended this Monday.

In the meantime, the corona numbers are rising again throughout Germany.

A large demonstration against the corona policy in Berlin also caused a stir.
