Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu confirmed that the Western sanctions imposed on Syria have a negative impact on the progress of resolving the crisis there and combating terrorism.
Sputnik quoted Shoigu as saying during a working meeting with the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Syria Geir Pedersen in Moscow today: There are factors that negatively affect the solution to the crisis in Syria and the fight against terrorism and reconstruction, including Western sanctions, the violation of Syria's sovereignty, the plunder of its wealth and the restrictions imposed by the Corona virus.
Shoigu praised the efforts made by the Syrian government to overcome all these difficulties and the negative factors surrounding and said: It is difficult to understand the logic of Western countries that claim, on the one hand, concern for the Syrian people, and on the other hand impose sanctions on them .. they prohibit the supply of medicines and foodstuffs and impede the return of the displaced.
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during his meeting with Pedersen today, reiterated the need to solve the crisis in Syria politically in accordance with UN Resolution 2254 through Syrian-Syrian dialogue and without external interference.
