Shmuel Vetro (89), a Holocaust survivor who survived the death marches of the end of World War II, began his childhood in Romania in a synagogue called the Cave of the Patriarchs.

His father was the Gabay of the synagogue, and in the end, Shmuel ended his life in Israel in Kiryat Arba, studying and praying every day in the Cave of the Patriarchs - which for him was a huge closing of the circle.

His granddaughter Shoshana Vetro recounted his life: "Grandpa survived the most horrific marches of the Nazis. His older brother Nathaniel froze to death and died, and Grandpa dodged the bullets and the immense evil that was there. Then he immigrated to Israel and fought all the Israeli wars and started a family with three children."

The traffic light plan - this is how it works

"He would say that the large family he established here is his real victory over the Germans. In Eretz Saba he held various positions - from paving roads to mining water wells, a project he was very proud of. In the last decade he moved to Kiryat Arba to live with his grandchildren and near the Cave of the Patriarchs."

As for Corona, Shoshana notes that despite his age, "Grandpa was perfectly healthy. After he fell ill he had difficulty breathing and he was taken to the Corona ward. Even there at first he went and was in relatively good condition."

Shoshana says that "it seems that the loneliness and conditions there caused him to lose his temper, because he suddenly deteriorated after falling asleep and breathing. After his death we also closed another circle for him, by burying him in Hebron in the ancient cemetery, so that even after his death he is near the Cave of the Patriarchs."
