Tour Championship: Johnson and Rahm for a first

2020-09-03T12:00:27.989Z

Before the last stage of the FedEx Cup play offs in Atlanta (Georgia), the American Dustin Johnson, recent winner at the Northern Trust and then 2nd in the BMW Championship, is the favorite to succeed Rory McIlroy.

Two weeks ago, Dustin Johnson (36, world No. 1) flew the Northern Trust by finishing at -30 overall, 11 strokes ahead of his compatriot Harris English (31, 51st).

Last week, during the BMW Championship, he lost in the play off against the Spaniard Jon Rahm (25, 2nd).

The Basque had a lot of success by putting in a putt of more than 20 meters to win.

Scenario that the two players surely did not imagine.

Leading the FedEx Cup with only 391 points ahead of Rahm, “DJ” will start this Friday at 2:20 pm (local time) in the company of his best enemy, and will try to win his first FedEx Cup after a 2nd place acquired in 2016, behind the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy.

Justin Thomas to make history

For the last tournament of the season on the legendary East Lake course, the historic club of the legendary Bobby Jones, the cards are redistributed and there is only one ranking left.

What to give a little suspense to the spectators who will watch the event in front of their televisions this year because of the health crisis.

Dustin Johnson, who held a 391 point lead over Jon Rahm, will be just two strokes ahead of the Spaniard on Friday afternoon (-10 to -8).

The American Justin Thomas, winner of this FedEx Cup in 2017, will start at -7, three strokes behind DJ.

Which is a definite advantage, given his significant loss of 901 points at the dawn of the last tournament.

He could, thanks to a victory, enter the very closed circle of players to have won two FedEx Cups, alongside Rory McIlroy, winner in 2016 and 2019, as well as Tiger Woods in 2007 and 2009. Behind him, the Rookie Collin Morikawa (-5) could come and titillate the leaders as he did on August 9 to win the USPGA, his first major in his career.

Answer Monday evening to discover the new winner of this FedEx Cup 2020, accompanied by his nice check for 10 million dollars.
