US President Donald Trump announced tonight (Friday) that Israel will recognize the state of Kosovo, and later establish diplomatic relations with it.
At the same time, Serbia announced that it would move the Israeli embassy to Jerusalem by July 2021.
This is a change in policy on the part of Israel.
For years, Israel has refused to recognize Kosovo for fear that it would give countries legitimacy to recognize Palestine as a state.
In addition, Israel took into account that Russia opposes the recognition of Kosovo and in order to preserve relations with Putin did not recognize it.
It is not clear what led to the change in current policy.

Kosovo has been recognized as a state by nearly a hundred countries since declaring independence from Serbia in 2008 following a bloody war between them a decade earlier, decided following NATO intervention alongside rebels under the rule of Yugoslav dictator Slobodan Milosevic. Officially due to the refusal of Russia, an ally of Serbia and a veto on the UN Security Council, to recognize it.
For years the EU has been trying to mediate between Serbia and Kosovo, and has placed normalization between them as a condition for joining the EU.
In recent months, however, the Americans have embarked on a detour, centered on economic relations between them, and Serbian President and Kosovo President accused Tachi were due to arrive at the White House as early as June, but the latter was prosecuted for war crimes by the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
