Latakia - Sana

The firefighting personnel and machinery of the Agriculture Directorate in Lattakia managed to extinguish the fire that broke out today in the eastern forests of the Slanfeh area. Cooling operations are being conducted on the site to prevent the renewal of the fire.

Muhannad Jaafar, commander of the Latakia fire brigade, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent that the fire, the causes of which was not known until now, broke out in the eastern forests of the Slanfeh area, where the firefighters made great efforts to control it and prevent its expansion and was extinguished.

Jaafar pointed out that the firefighting teams and the Ministry of Agriculture's machinery are working to extinguish another fire that broke out today in the forests of the Jabal Al Shaara site in Lattakia countryside, as they are working to control it to prevent it from spreading to wider areas.

Jaafar explained that the fire is spreading in the “Qamoua Al-Khayala” site on the borders separating the governorates of Lattakia and Hama from the side of the Slanfeh region, which is a natural forest area with difficult terrain.

Jaafar pointed out that the firefighters, in cooperation with several authorities in the governorate, put out 13 fires yesterday, while the fire extinguishing operations are continuing in the forests near the village of Ghunaimiyah in the northern countryside of Latakia.

Later, a SANA reporter reported that the fire is still consuming the Shuh Reserve forest in the Slanfeh area due to the fluctuation of the direction of the winds, despite the great efforts of the firefighting teams.
