The corona pandemic thwarted many plans for events this year.

As recently became known, the Christmas market in the old town is also on the brink.

“I don't want to risk anything,” said town hall chief Klaus Heilinglechner a few weeks ago in an interview with our newspaper.

The remaining open Sundays with markets in the old town - the Kirchweihmarkt in October and the Martini market in November - are also highly questionable.

A final decision has not yet been made.

That could change on Tuesday evening.

The City Council's main and finance committee deals with the future of markets.

"There is a clear recommendation for action by the federal government to forego street and village festivals," explains Vice Mayor Günther Eibl, who is currently representing the town hall chief.

As a result, the city administration recommends that the committee cancel the popular, mostly well-attended markets.

A decision has not yet been made for the Christmas market, which traditionally opens its doors on the first weekend in Advent - but the chances do not seem too great: “We expect that there will also be a recommendation for the Christmas markets.” Regardless, the administration is currently working on a "Plan B".

If it should be possible, "we would like to be prepared to offer a different form for this event," says Eibl.

He has not yet revealed what a corona-compliant Christmas market in Loisachstadt should look like.

This will also be discussed in committee on Tuesday 8 September.

The meeting in the town hall starts at 6 p.m.

For reasons of infection protection, a maximum of ten people are allowed to be in the visitors' gallery at the same time, as announced by the municipality.
