The Buildings Department of the Education Directorate in Al-Hasakah Governorate completed the maintenance and equipping works of 20 schools in the city of Qamishli and its countryside in preparation for the new school year.
The director of school buildings, Engineer Riyad Majdal Bey, stated in a statement to SANA that the maintenance operations for schools are carried out with the support of the Ministry of Education and the cooperation of a number of humanitarian organizations, pointing out that the maintenance includes the restoration of the building's construction block, including painting works, maintenance of doors, windows, electricity, seats and water tanks, and implementing child-friendly drawings in addition to To equipping health facilities, restoring sidewalks and patios, and installing white boards.
As for the maintenance of public facilities, Majdal Bey explained that maintenance is divided into two parts, which are either the construction of new health facilities and the drilling of wells or the maintenance of existing health facilities where they are ready for investment during the school year.
Majdal Bey stated that there are partial emergency maintenance, fully funded from the investment education budget for the year 2020, which is estimated at 75 million Syrian pounds, as the maintenance of 20 schools has been completed and there are 20 other schools in which maintenance operations are currently being completed, pointing out that within the Ministry's preventive plan to combat the spread of the Coronavirus has been completed An amount of 250 million Syrian pounds was allocated for the maintenance of a number of public facilities in 52 schools.
Majdal Bey pointed out that there is an additional plan for the ministry to start building five schools.
For his part, the head of the educational complex in Qamishli, Hassan Al-Hussein, confirmed that the second step that is taken after maintenance and receipt of the targeted schools from the maintenance operations is the stage of cleaning and sterilization taken within the framework of precautionary measures to address the Corona virus, and the sterilization process takes place before the start of the new school year.
