Authorities in Sudan have declared a natural disaster in the country and imposed a three-month state of emergency across the country following huge floods.
About 100 people have died, and more than 100,000 homes have been flooded since the end of July.
The decision was made at the end of a meeting of the State Defense and Security Council led by General 'Abd al-Fatah al-Burhan, the de facto leader of Sudan.
The floods, a result of multiple rains, particularly in neighboring Ethiopia, raised the Nile River level to 17.5 meters at the end of last month.
According to the Sudanese Ministry of Agriculture, this is its highest level in the last century.
In the Blue Nile, the water level is higher than in the 1988 floods that destroyed tens of thousands of homes across Sudan.
About half a million people in Sudan have been affected by the recent floods, including many refugees and displaced persons in the Darfur region.
