In the coming weeks, a bill will be submitted to the Ministerial Committee on Legislative Affairs, the purpose of which is to transfer the hearings in all the courts, with the exception of closed-door hearings, to live broadcasts on the Internet.

MK Mai Golan's (Likud) bill seeks to make court hearings accessible to all citizens and spectators seeking to watch them.

In the explanatory memorandum to the proposal, MK Golan writes that "currently every citizen of the State of Israel is allowed to enter all the hearings that take place in the courtrooms, with the exception of closed-door hearings.

"This bill has made the discussions on the television and digital media accessible in order to allow every citizen to watch the discussions that he is already allowed to attend, and to do so from his own home."

It was also stated in the explanatory memorandum that "even the Honorable President Esther Hayut made it possible to broadcast live on the Internet media the discussions that took place in the Supreme Court on the coalition agreement for two consecutive days, thus President Hayut laid the cornerstone for this matter; And the direct result of this is the strengthening of public trust in the legal system in the State of Israel. "

In addition, Golan explains that the proposal "is very beneficial even with populations of people with physical disabilities, such as disabled people confined to their homes who cannot physically reach the courtrooms, and other disabled people who can listen and learn from the court system. "Preserve and strengthen democracy - something that we as a society strive for, and above all it will strengthen the public's trust in the judiciary through publicity and transparency, and of course - making the hearings in the halls accessible to all citizens of the country."

In recent weeks, the Ministerial Committee has not met due to the coalition crisis and due to recess.

When, however, discussions were held in committee, they concerned only the laws of Corona.

However, estimates are that the chances of the bill passing, given a solution to the political crisis, are good.
