The Ministry of Defense is examining a series of future developments created by Israeli startups, which will be incorporated into the combat lineup in the near future and make infantry fighters much more lethal. Some developments were considered science fiction until a few years ago, but are now becoming a reality that will dramatically change the future battlefield.

During the iHLS unmanned aerial vehicle transmitter, Lieutenant Colonel Menachem Landau, head of the UAV and glider industry at the Mapat's R & D unit at the Ministry of Defense, unveiled a number of technologies that are being examined. The Ministry of Defense understood that , Technologies in the civilian arena are more advanced, so there is room for cooperation in order to meet the challenges.

"Skimmers are growing and developing in the civilian environment at a higher rate than the military environment. We at Mapat have decided to ride the wave and harness technologies from the civilian environment that interest us for the benefit of the security system.

We chose to focus on a number of young start-ups and invest in them, similar to a venture capital fund.

If in a civil society the fund invests so that there is an exit, we want a security exit - putting the system into operational service.

We are looking for fast and up-to-date technology, and at cheap prices, so that as many soldiers as possible can use it. "

One of the most sophisticated technologies currently being tested in the Ministry of Defense is that of the startup company "SPEAR".

It is a technology that enables a fighter to gain capabilities of observation and intelligence gathering using a skimmer in real time, anytime and anywhere.

The skimmers are stored in a capsule that the warrior carries on his back.

When necessary, the fighter pulls out the capsule, launches it using a weapon, such as a 40 mm projectile, the glider reaches the point defined for it and performs the mission for the force in the field. "Mapat is currently testing this technology, which allows a soldier to launch from Point the glider and get what it needs in real time. "

Lt. Col. Landau estimates that the technology will be integrated into extensive activities in the IDF and will add value to the forces on the ground.

Landau also revealed that the IDF uses augmented reality technologies to create a complete picture of a soldier in the field. XTend has developed a technology that allows augmented reality goggles for a fighter to see what the glider sees in the field. Lt. Col. Landau: "From the world of gaming, it allows for simple and intuitive operation. It allows you to see the interior of the building, remove explosives and perform various operations without risking human life. It is a groundbreaking product in the technological aspect and we are examining its integration in the various military units."

During the Corona period, the technology was tested to supply medical equipment and food to places where Corona patients reside.

Another company that is being promoted these days is Colugo, which is developing an unmanned aerial vehicle of the "VTOL" type, which enjoys both worlds - gliding alongside flying like an airplane: Free. Once the UAV finishes taking off like a glider it starts flying like a plane.

You get both performance here - and yet the system is tactical, simple and inexpensive.

This makes it possible to do more distant tasks.

Get longer stays of an hour and a half.

Unlike a regular glider that scratches the 50 minutes in the air.

"Of course you can increase the UAV and get a larger load. We want to put the product in a nest, which will be packed and know how to go out on a mission. .

In the coming days, a skimmer challenge will be held at the Ministry of Defense, which was open to the public and was attended by dozens of participants.

"In recent months we have built a skimmer challenge inside buildings. We want to see skimmer-based technologies and capabilities inside buildings. We have built a scenario and in each room a different surprise awaits. Participants will have to face the challenge and tell us outside what is inside the building and provide any information So that he knows what he is facing. "

Lt. Col. Landau noted that they decided on the competition to "bounce" the ability and bring answers as quickly as possible. "We decided to open it up to the world and see in the competition what surprises will come to us.

If we find interesting solutions, we will continue the process with them. "
