The Ministerial Committee for Limited Area Affairs is expected to approve tonight (Monday) the list of red localities in which a series of restrictions will apply to curb the spread of the corona starting tomorrow.

This, after a day's delay in formulating the final list, which led to anger among the heads of the authorities who remained confused and uncertain.

In about 40 cities with the highest level of morbidity, a night curfew will be imposed between 05:00 and 19:00, and the education system will be closed, except for special education.

During the night curfew, all commercial activity, except for essential businesses that remain open, is suspended.

Also, residents will be allowed to stay only up to 500 meters from their homes, except in cases of stockpiling food and medical needs.

This is in addition to the gathering limit, according to which a gathering of more than 20 people in an open space, and more than ten in closed spaces, will be prohibited.

The restrictions that will apply in the red cities:

  • Night curfew from 05:00 to 19:00

  • Traffic limit of up to 500 meters from the house during the curfew

  • Disabling trading during the curfew, except for essential businesses

  • Closure of educational institutions, except for special education

  • Prohibition of gatherings of more than 20 people in an open space, and 10 in a closed space

During the day, in Bnei Brak, preparations were made for the imposition of the night curfew.

The municipality set up roadblocks on Ben Gurion Street, which is on the border with Ramat Gan.

Also, following the delay in the ministers' decisions regarding restrictions on the red localities, the municipality informed the residents that the studies will continue tomorrow as usual.

"Due to the delay in the government's decision to approve the restrictions on the various cities, for the time being, classes will be held tomorrow in all the educational institutions as usual," the municipality said in a statement.

"Even tonight the restrictions did not take effect."

Preparations for a night curfew in Bnei Brak

Already yesterday, the Ministerial Committee approved the series of restrictions on dozens of red cities.

However, the Ministry of Health has announced that the entry into force of the decision will be postponed until tomorrow.

This is due to the lengthening of the consultation processes with the heads of the red authorities and the examination of morbidity data in the various cities.

The imposition of the night curfew and the closure of the education system in the red localities are part of a softened outline that was put to a vote in the committee, led by Netanyahu.

This, following the pressure exerted by the ultra-Orthodox factions, which blocked the proposal of the corona commissioner Prof. Roni Gamzo, which included the imposition of a full closure on about nine red localities.

However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied the allegations that his decision was influenced by pressure from the ultra-Orthodox factions.

"On Thursday we decided on measures in red cities. Discussions took place over the weekend and the recommendation was to bring about uniform treatment in 40 cities," he claimed in a statement from the Corona headquarters.

"The pressures that came to me (from the ultra-Orthodox, Bar) were to do nothing.

If I wanted to, I would accept this demand.

I think the decision to carry out uniform treatment is the right and balanced decision. "
